Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah Harmer made her debut in with Songs for Clem, an album of pop and country covers that she recorded for her father as a Christmas present. Sarah had no intention of releasing it publicly while recording it but the reaction she received from family and friends convinced her to. She followed that up with second album You Were Here in , which was certified Platinum in Canada, and in she hit number 6 on the Canadian charts with third album All of Our Names. A decade on from the release of that album, Sarah is back with her sixth studio album Are You Gone. Folk meets alt-rock is the order of the day across these 12 tracks that demand to be listened to over and over. She swits between a speak-sing delivery, frequently pushing to her upper range with great effect.
The Lookout, which sits in the middle of the track listing is one of the moments that I kept going back to.
The piano-led intro broadens out with a stomping beat and the tempo changes throughout the track. The final track is See Her Wave for Jacquiwhich veers into Country territory as Sarah harmonises with a male vocal.
Are You Gone is a welcome return for Sarah.

Squeaking Voices 6. She moved to Kingston in to attend Queen's Universitybut continued to play gigs with the Saddletramps throughout Quebec and southern Ontario. InHarmer left the band to focus on her studies; it was also during this time that she began writing her own songs.
InHarmer was given the opportunity to open a show at Ottawa nightclub Zaphod Beeblebrox. Harmer called on friend and stand-up bass player Joe Chithalen, and the duo prepared five original tunes written by Harmer.

In the fall ofHarmer brought together a four-piece band including guitarist Gord Tough; Joe Chithalen on bass, vocals, viola and cello; and Chris Smirnios on drums. They were later replaced by various musicians, including her sister, Mary Harmer, on bass. Her first solo album, meant as a gift for her father, was a collection of his favourite standards. - standartmerkezi.com release, Songs for Clemwas recorded with friend Jason Euringer on the back porch of Harmer's farmhouse in Kingston, Ont. The album's fan base grew to include CBC radio host Stuart McLeanwho twice featured performances by Harmer and her father on his show Vinyl Cafe.
CBC television also requested a solo performance from Harmer for its show Heartlan which encouraged her to begin performing as a solo artist and to record an album of originals entitled You Were Here You Were Here was recorded in the Toronto warehouse studio of Pete Prilesnik.
The album was funded by Harmer and allowed her to co-produce and collaborate again with Weeping Tile alumni Gord Tough, Luther Wright, and Camille Giroux.
Released independently by Cold Snap, You Were Here became one of the most critically acclaimed albums of that year. Time magazine labeled it "the year's best debut," while Rolling Stone called it "marvelously compelling.
She spent two years on the road performing concerts in North America and abroad. Harmer has experimented with a variety of musical styles since her early days in the Saddletramps, all of which have contributed to her songwriting style. Weeping Tile, known for their aggressive rock sound, showcased Harmer singing at full voice with a slightly rough edge.

InHarmer helped form the Burlington environmental group PERL Protecting Escarpment Rural Lan fighting a seven-year battle against the expansion of a quarry near her parents' Mount Nemo home.
The fight was won inbut she fears a revised quarry proposal will be successful and continues to consult with local environmentalists on how to fight it. She has also spoken out about the provincial government's Bill 66, which she believes could endanger wetland, farmland and forests.
